BMP's
Best Management Practices (BMPs) are actions or products that can be put into place by industrial companies to reduce pollutants in water samples. As part of being permitted under the IGP, facilities must create a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) that shows a map of their facility, their sample points and a list of BMPs that should be used to reduce pollutants. One of the simplest BMPs is sweeping. By ensuring that an employee sweeps up the area near industrial activity several times each day, the pollution in their storm water run-off will be reduced. Other BMPs are products that steer water away from drains, filter water, or remove pollutants from water. The most popular BMPs that L&M sells are Basic BMPs such as oil only, boom socks and metal media socks. L&M also has a series of Intermediate BMPs used to remove higher levels of pollutants from storm water run-off. Our Consultants are Experts in BMP usage and deployment. They provide excellent advice on how customers can utilize BMPs to reduce pollutant levels and avoid violations or enforcement.

Basic BMPs
L&M Environmental Services provides a personalized BMP Report taking into consideration all factors affecting pollutants on your site. This includes recommendations and instructions on how to use our affordable, handcrafted Basic BMP products such as oil only boom socks and metal media socks to reduce pollutants by next rainfall. The minimum BMPs that are required of all industrial permit holders are:
► Good Housekeeping BMPs: Good Housekeeping BMPs apply in a general sense to a facility and all of its Industrial Activities.
► Spill and Leak Prevention and Response BMPs: Requires dischargers to minimize the potential for leaks, spills and other releases that may be exposed to storm water.
► Required Material Handling and Waste Management BMPs: Requires dischargers to ensure that waste, garbage, and floatable debris are not tracked of discharged through industrial storm water.
► Required Erosion Control BMPs: Requires structural and non-structural control measures to stabilize exposed areas and contain runoff.
► Required Employee Training BMPs: Ensure all relevant team members are trained to implement the requirements of the Permit. If a discharger enters Level 1 Status, all relevant team members must be trained by a Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP).
Intermediate BMPs
When Basic BMPs are being utilized and deployed correctly, but sample results continue to yield exceedances, it is imperative for industrial facilities to consider the usage of stronger BMPs. L&M Environmental Services has created a series of Intermediate BMPs designed and uniquely formulated to lower the pollutant levels in your sample results and achieve compliance. Also, L&M Environmental Services has created service solutions to utilize when Basic BMPs won’t lower your sample results enough to return your facility to Baseline Status.
Our Intermediate BMP products and services include:
► Down Spouts Media Filters
► Temporary Settling Ponds
► Gravel Bag Treatment
► Tote Treatment
► Drop Inlet filters
► Mini Tote Treatment Systems
► Site Washing
► Sweeper Trucks
► Regenerative Airflow Vacuums
Advanced BMPs
Advanced BMPs, such as Treatment, Shelter and Containment, are also available for facilities that desire a proactive approach to guarantee clean results. Advanced BMPs are not generally required unless a facility cannot control pollutants with the minimum BMPs; however, many sites already have some type of advanced BMPs in place. Advanced BMPs will be required if a site has pollutant exceedances and enters Level 1 and Level 2 Status. Advanced BMPs include:
► Exposure Minimization BMPs: Additional covered areas.
► Stormwater Containment and Discharge Reduction BMPs: Diversion, infiltration, retainment and reuse.
► Treatment Control BMPs: Storm water treatment systems may be necessary to achieve sample results below annual or instantaneous NALs.
► Other Advanced BMPs
